PERFECT DAYS

On Friday, I had one of the most perfect days. It started off with a wonderful interaction in a coffee shop, which continued in the afternoon. I taught well at school and received wonderful feedback from students. It's always a beautiful thing when someone tells you that you've touched their soul in such a short amount of time. After celebrating students at graduation, and the achievements of one of my film students, I decided to take myself on a long overdue Artist Date. More on that in another post.

Straight after that I went to see Wim Wenders' new movie Perfect Days at the really beautiful and cosy Garden Cinema, where I managed to secretly indulge in a sticky and delightful cinnamon bun during the trailers. Kay had already seen it and mentioned it was like watching me eat cereal....but for the whole film, and that really put a smile on my face. It was that and so much more. The film really resonated with me because it was so much of what I am about, or at least I hope to be. Finding the joy in little things - light and shadows moving across buildings, trees swaying, the soft rain, morning coffee, good music and poetic books.

The film follows an older gentleman, Hirayama, who cleans public toilets in Tokyo. We follow his daily life and his interactions with others. That's the plot and it is AMAZING! I smiled all throughout the film, except for the parts where I felt things so deeply and cried. This is such a masterpiece and a 10 out of 10 film by Wim Wenders. Fantastic performances, colour palette, and attention to detail. The dialogue is minimal as Hirayama rarely speaks, but the conversations that are had are so meaningful, and even if they seem trivial, they highlight the possibility of gaining so much more from what was being said through reflection.

I really enjoyed the light rain on the way home and seeing a rainbow just outside of my house! And of course I was adorned with beautiful messages from my beautiful grrrl throughout the day, who is just so perfect. So yes, Perfect Days was perfect as pie, as was my day for which I am incredibly grateful🙏🏽✨🌿
